Made such a stupid mistake today; I wanted to keep things tidy in our “new” motorhome so I’ve installed some remote mounted 12v sockets and hidden the wiring for the rear-view monitor. While I was at it I had the thought to hard wire the satnav rather than having yet another curly lead hanging over the edge of the dash. So, I dutifully cut the lead and stripped the end to link into my new loom, fired up the engine and nearly fired up the satnav, :158: never gave a thought to the fact that the satnav's charging lead had a voltage dropper in it, anyway I found out the hard way that Garmin satnavs run on 5 volts and do not like 12 volts being fed into them – I doesn’t smell at all nice now. One new Garmin needed! :(

To use todays expression: Doh

It won't make you feel any better about it but it makes me realise that it's not all negative being a ham handed technical numpty like wot I is.

I recently bought a Garmin Nuvi 265W for about 100 quids. It was half the cost of getting an update disc for the Alpine DVD satnav.

That makes 4 working satnavs we've got
